This iconic Hunter Grape variety is of French origin but the Hunter Valley is known for a style of wine which ages for many years and the combination of terroir and humid weather conditions have put its mark on this wine style. Catherine Vale has 2 clones of Semillon on 3 different rootstocks. The resultant wines can vary from year to year in their characters, but generally possess the following:
Colour: Vibrant light straw with tinges of pale green
Nose: Intense aroma, showing citrus blossom, pear and star fruit characters.
Palate: Hints of nectarine and citron with the balanced acidity giving a fine finish with lengthy flavours of citrus and pineapple.
(The Gray’s Semillon named after long time friends and a great help at planting) Carries higher than normal alcohol for
the Hunter with ease, retaining fruit brightness and thrust to the minerally finish. Lanolin characters showing through well
and will change to honey with more time in bottle. Halliday Rating – 90. 12% Alc.Vol.
